Game Review: Mario Kart Wii
Went to Bucky’s place last night and played Mario Kart Wii. Gerbil (JT) and Ken were also there, and hilarity ensued.
Mario Kart Wii is solid. I’d give it 4 out of 5 koopa shells.
What I loved about it:
- It holds true to the Mario Kart franchise. The game play is similar and the fun factor is still there.
- The 3D courses are super challenging (in the vein of Super Mario Galaxy).
- The controller as a steering wheel is brilliant, and it is absolutely hilarious to watch four people in a room steering a rectangular remote.
- That said, local multiplayer is the only way to go in this game. The screaming and shittalking is unparalleled.
What I didn’t like about it:
- It wasn’t terribly innovative over Mario Kart 64 and the graphics weren’t better either…and it’s been 8-9 years.
- The battles are poorly designed. You have to play with AI characters and I think it takes away from the fun. I think this was actually better in MK64 because you could toggle it on and off.
